Hello everyone, The line from that song may be older than most of us, but it has certainly never been truer than it is now for most of us. What rotten, miserable, turbulent and uncertain times we’re living in! But enough with the moaning, groaning and self-pity. In the immortal words of whoever it was that said it, “This too shall pass” This is our 19th (yes, NINETEENTH) season, and one great thing about the previous 18 years, is that they have given us a little bit of wisdom and a lot of experience Were we mad when we opened up away back in 1992, at the height of the first Gulf War and with bank interest rates running at 19.5 percent? Yes, we were – but we survived it Were we worried sick when Foot and Mouth disease threatened to close down our country? Yes, we were – but we survived it Were we facing doom when the much feared Millennium Bug was going to obliterate all our technology in one instant? Yes we were – but we survived it Were we devastated when the mind-numbing and shattering atrocity of 9/11 changed our World forever? Yes, we were – but we survived it Were we baffled and fearful when an air-borne disease called SARS (remember that?) was threatening us with extinction? Yes we were – but we survived it And are we as worried as ever we were today with all the doom and gloom that is pervading our very being? Yes we are – but WE WILL survive it...! Here endeth Rosney’s Rant for 2009...! As usual, running down the side of this Newsletter are lots of useful websites for you to look at if you’re considering a trip to GOD’s OWN COUNTRY in the Kingdom of Kerry And below some gossip and information that we hope you find interesting or entertaining Enjoy our Newsletter and hopefully we might have the pleasure of your company here in the Killeen House during the course of 2009

ALL HAIL PRESIDENT GERALDINE...(“YES SHE CAN……!”) In mid March, Geraldine was elected to the position of National President of the SKAL Clubs of the Republic of Ireland SKAL is an International Travel & Tourism organisation (kind of like Lions or Rotary) that has over 20.000 members in 500 Clubs, located in 90 different countries around the World. To be elected National President is a great honour, but it also entails a great deal of work. Already, she has committed to attending events in the UK, Paris and Budapest, not to mention numerous trips all over Ireland Michael is obviously thrilled for Geraldine, but he has slight worries that all this upheaval might possibly be the cause of his having to do a bit of work in the Killeen House again this summer! And for sure, he’s not too impressed with the fact that he will have to walk one step behind Geraldine for the next year or so, and bring her tea in bed every morning... But in fairness to the lady, you have to admit that she looks kind of classy with the Chain of Office draped around her neck... We’re sure you agree! |

IRELAND’S NEW MANTRA: VALUE...VALUE...VALUE...Up until a year or two ago, the words “value” and “Ireland” probably did not belong in the same book together, not to mind the same chapter, paragraph or sentence together. The reality and the perception was that Ireland, while being a great place to visit, was also a ridiculously expensive place to visit. And this was a true reality and a true perception... It was brought about by a combination of different circumstances, high production costs, high labour costs, high energy costs, high foreign exchange differentials, and unfortunately, a high level of greed and hopping on the bandwagon of maximising profits Well, guess what? “Tings has chainged” We have a new reality here in Ireland – now our challenge is to get a new perception to reflect this reality The reality is that there has NEVER been a better time to holiday in Ireland. Thankfully, the standards are high as ever, and the sheer value for money that is available is better now than it has been any time in the last twenty years. To see it for yourself, just have a look at the great deals on offer on Tourism Ireland’s official website at www.discoverireland.com Because we here in the Killeen House are so small and unimportant (big AHHHH everyone…!) you won’t see us featured on Tourism Ireland’s website... which we hope you’ll take the time to browse around. Who knows, you might even get an overwhelming and irresistible urge to contact us for more information…..?

A BIT OF A COMPETITIONWe just love competitions here in the Killeen House! In this Newsletter, we would like to invite you to submit a photograph for inclusion on our website so that it can be appreciated and enjoyed by all The only condition is that the photograph must be one that was taken anywhere or at any time in Ireland! Ideally, we would love it if it had the Killeen House or the Kerry region as its subject...maybe one of our staff hard at work (?)... a shot on a golf course...a magnificent landscape view...an evocative portrait...anything at all will be considered At the end of September this year, Michael, Geraldine and a professional photographer will choose the winner of the competition The prize will be a bottle of Midleton Very Rare Irish Whiskey. If the winner wishes, this bottle of Whiskey can be sent to them via the mail. Otherwise, they can come personally and collect it in the Killeen House any time during the 2010 season - when they will also receive a complimentary three night stay in one of our Championship bedrooms!!! Above is an example of a super photograph that was taken by our friend David Bastianelli from Detroit, when he was staying with us a while back You can submit your photo by sending it to web@killeenhousehotel.com And please don’t forget to include your name, and also, we’d love to get a quick comment on the details of the photo too The competition entries will be viewable on our facebook profile here at any time. If you wish to send on the competition to friends or family just forward the newsletter here. |

EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY...But sometimes it can be just a little bit deceiving! Take this picture above, for example. It’s a really nice picture (well, as nice as any picture that has Michael in it can be anyway!). We got it taken as a publicity piece when we recently won a TripAdvisor Award – for the second time – for being voted one of the Top “Hidden Gems” in the World. There are two pretty unusual things about this picture…. First thing is that as you can see, it was taken in the garden of the Killeen House Hotel – in mid February! It was a beautiful warm day, there was no rain, and there was even some blue sky – again I say, in mid February – in Killarney, Ireland! And the second thing was (and the eagle-eyed among you will have spotted this) the bottle of champagne was unopened, even though we seemed to have champagne in our glasses! In fact the glasses were filled with cold tea! It looked kind of like the real thing, but no way did it taste like it!
