We open our doors (for our 19th season!) today, April 14th, and we are looking forward to welcoming back many old friends, and making many new ones over the course of the summer

The last couple of years have been among the toughest Irish tourism has ever experienced and, to be very honest, the foreseeable future is not promising rapid and remarkable recovery

But Irish people (especially all of us here in the Killeen House!) are nothing if not resilient and optimistic! We laugh in the face of Doom and Gloom and we say roll on the Boom and Bloom...!

And so, the promise we make to you is a simple one; come and visit us and we will guarantee to send you away from us with a song in your heart, a memory to cherish, and a smile on your face – even after you’ve paid your bill!

2010 KILLEEN HOUSE PHOTO COMPETITION...

So successful was our Photo Competition last year, that we are delighted to announce an all new Competition for 2010

Kathleen Rock and her husband Dick from the USA, were last year’s winners, with this stunning photograph of Kylemore Abbey



We don’t do complicated terms and conditions here in the Killeen House, and all we ask of any entered photo is that is has an Irish theme…. It can be about anything, everything or nothing……It can be taken anywhere in Ireland, or anywhere in the rest of the world (but with an Irish flavour to it, like for example, an Irish Pub, a St Patrick’s Day Parade, a U2 concert – anything that has an Irish connection)

The winning entrant will receive a bottle of Midleton Very Rare Irish Whiskey and a two night stay in a deluxe Championship bedroom here in the Killeen House, and there will also be a number of runners up prizes too.

Entry is now open HERE and will run until September 30th 2010, with the Winners being announced in our Christmas Newsletter, and on our Website and Facebook page

THE GOLDEN TREKKER INITIATIVE

This is a fantastic new scheme that was launched by the Irish Government on St Patrick’s Day... Simply put, it entitles any Tourist to Ireland (from anywhere in the world) who is aged sixty six years or older, to avail of ABSOLUTELY FREE travel anywhere on Ireland’s very good national Rail network. It is a great initiative, with vast potential for increasing Ireland’s tourism share of the ‘seniors’ Market, and there is great credit due to the Irish Government for introducing it.

THE 3 IRISH OPEN

Killarney’s beautiful Killeen golf course is the venue for this year’s Irish Open Golf Tournament, from July 28th to August 1st

The Open was last held in Killarney in 1991 and 1992 and is still very much talked about locally

This year’s Event promises to be spectacular, given that it is one of the last tournaments that will count for points for this year’s Ryder Cup competition

OUR NEW WEBSITE

As of April 2nd, the Killeen House is the proud possessor of a brand new website!

Over the winter, Michael, Geraldine and their computer guru Sean Clifford (www.consultclifford.com) worked on developing the site, which they hope will meet with your approval...

We are conscious of the value of our website, to both the Killeen House and – much more importantly – to you, the potential guest. We want it to be a resource and a source of information for Ireland, not just for the Killeen House

LOVE STORIES BEGIN IN THE KILLEEN HOUSE

Molly Borg and Patrick Thornton are two lovely young people, who stayed here in the Killeen House in 2008, with a small group from a large legal firm in Minnesota. They were good friends when they arrived - but they were much better friends when they left.....

This photograph shows their very first kiss (with each other!) in the Killeen House Pub.... Unfortunately, Molly is blocking the clock on the wall behind her - but its safe to assume that it was closer to 3am than it was to 3pm.....

And this photo show them on their wedding day in June of 2009.....!!!!

Heartiest congratulations to the Thorntons, and may the next photograph we see of them include at least 50 percent more people in it.....

PRIVATE EVENTS IN ROZZERS RESTAURANT OR INDEED IN THE WHOLE KILLEEN HOUSE

Over the last couple of years, we’ve had a noticeable increase in the number of all private events we have hosted here in the Killeen House and Rozzers restaurant

ROZZERS can cater for up to 30 guests in a private dining room for lunch or dinner

And the Killeen House Hotel itself is the ideal venue for residential private occasions, for groups of between 30 and 50 guests. Weddings, family reunions, golf societies, business meetings, and many other occasions have been very successfully hosted
