The Building
|
Built in 1838, in the Edwardian style, as a Rectory for Archdeacon Nathienal Forester. Before finding it's true role in life as a Charming little Hotel, the Killeen House saw service as a Farmhouse, a Dower House, an Old Folk's Home and believe it or not, a Maternity Home. (One wonders what the good Archdeacon would have thought of all this?) If the walls could talk, you'd surely be awake all night listening to them. Thankfully though, the only Spirits to be found here are those that come out of a bottle in the pub! (By the way, the name Killeen is a common enough Irish placename - and occasionally a family name - meaning "Site of a Holy Place") |
