What is the climate like in Ireland?

The climate in Ireland is generally mild. Because of the moderating influence of the prevailing warm, moist winds from the Atlantic Ocean, the average winter temperatures range from 4.4° to 7.2° C (40° to 45° F), approximately 14° C (25° F) higher than that of other places in the same latitude in the interior of Europe or on the eastern coast of North America. In summer, the average summer temperature is 15° to 16.7° C (59° to 62° F), being approximately 4° C (7° F) lower than that of other places in the same latitudes. The rainfall averages 1016 mm (40 in) a year.
